At first, they told their friends that they were celebrating Theroux's birthday, but when some people R.S.V.P.'d no due to busy schedules, they felt like they had to tell the truth in order for everyone to be there for their special day.
Theroux said that some guests who knew the real reason for the celebration turned up appropriately dressed for the occasion, while some who still thought that they were attending a casual party were dressed in jeans and flip flops.
He revealed that they also had friends who came to their home in formal wear every time they got an invitation.

In an interview, Theroux told Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America," that being married is "fantastic."
"Something really does shift in a wonderful way and it refocuses things and in a weird way, it was a long time coming," he said.

Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux: So Happy On First Red Carpet As Married Couple

Newlywed life looks to be treating Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux well! The lovers walked their first red carpet since tying the knot on Aug. 5 and looked so happy together while posing for the cameras. So sweet!

Life is good for Jennifer Aniston, 46, and Justin Theroux! The actress supported her hubby at the Austin premiere of his HBO show The Leftovers, making it the couple’s first official red carpet appearance as a married pair. And they couldn’t have looked happier!
Jen and Justin appeared to coordinate outfits for the big debut, with Justin in black pants, white shirt, black skinny tie and blazer and the 46-year-old showing off her amazing figure in a black jumpsuit. The Cake star proudly wore her gorgeous wedding band for the outing, although she noticeably kept her left hand in her pocket for most of the walk down the carpet.
After a nearly two-year engagement, the actors finally tied the knot on Aug. 5 in a totally surprise ceremony. To keep things on the DL, they told almost all the guests that the event was just a party for Justin’s 44th birthday, but it, of course, wound up being SO much more! They followed up with a honeymoon in Bora Bora, where they were joined by some of their closest friends.
Despite their high-profile, A-list status, Jen and Justin have kept mum on most of the details of their big day, although she did admit to being“deliriously happy” now that she’s a married woman. Oh, and this red carpet appearance definitely helped to dispel those recent rumors of a split, and considering Jen looks thin as ever, she’s probably not actually pregnant via IVF, was was reported on Sept. 16.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's email wedding invites revealed

It was the surprise celebrity wedding of the year but Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux chose to send out their invites via email. Instead of posting traditional invitations, the Hollywood couple opted for very low-key arrangement.
They even disguised the wedding as an early birthday party for Justin, who turned 44 a few days before tying the knot with his new wife.
American comedian Whitney Cummings was among the 70 guests in attendance and during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the funnywoman spilled the beans on the top-secret ceremony.
Howard Stern's speech at the wedding touched on "how he didn't know Justin well enough to be there"
The 5 August nuptials were held in the privacy of Jennifer and Justin's Bel Air home and to ensure that proceedings were kept under wraps, guests were asked to hand in their mobiles at the start of the evening.
Howard Stern gave a speech at the reception, which was "hilarious", said Whitney.
"All he talked about was how he didn't know Justin well enough to be there," said the comedian. "It was very funny."
When asked what wedding gift she gave the A-lister bride, Whitney said she chose a ring with Justin's initials on it. "I gave her basically an engagement ring for her wedding," said Whitney. "It was very weird."
Of the first dance, which was hit song Chandelier performed live by Sia, Whitney added: "It was pretty good."
Jennifer Aniston was gifted a ring that had Justin's initials printed on it
Shortly after the wedding, radio star Howard dished some details on the garden ceremony that was officiated by Jimmy Kimmel and had famous faces Orlando BloomCourteney Coxand Tobey Maguire in attendance.
"They're so secretive those two," said Howard on his SiriusXM Radio Show. "They contacted us and said, 'Please don't tell anyone.'"
Howard was one of the few who knew the celebration was a wedding, as he was asked by his good friend Justin to make a speech. "I'm very friendly with Justin. I like him very much, I really admire him," said Howard, adding that he'd be "pleased" if his own daughters brought home a "guy like him."

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's wedding dance was to 'Chandelier': guest

Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston arrive at the 2015 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on February 22, 2015 in Beverly Hills, California.

It's a great song to dance around the house to (flesh-coloured leotard and blonde bob wig optional), but it's hard to see how one could use Sia's Chandelier as a bridal waltz.
Yet that is exactly what Jennifer Aniston did at her wedding last month, a guest at the super secret ceremony has revealed.
Although it had previously been reported that Sia performed at the ceremony, comedian Whitney Cummings has confirmed that Aniston and her husband Justin Theroux had their first dance to the singer's Grammy-nominated song, Chandelier.
Speaking on late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live, Cummings joked that she probably wasn't supposed to speak about the much-anticipated nuptials, but that she was going to anyway.
I know Jen doesn't watch this show so we're good," she said.
Cummings then answered a series of questions about her famous friend's big day, explaining that guests were invited by email and that she was the most drunk at the party, before revealing that the couple had their first dance to a live performance of the Australian singer's popular track.
"It was pretty good," she said.
Chandelier isn't a particularly romantic choice for couple's first dance at their wedding.
The song, which includes the lyrics "I'm the one 'for a good time call', phone's blowin' up, they're ringin' my doorbell... here comes the shame, here comes the shame" tells the dark story of a party girl's regret.
Although Sia has never spoken specifically about the song's meaning, she has previously opened up about her struggles with addiction.
"I was really unhappy being an artist. I was always a drinker but I didn't know I was an alcoholic," she told Billboard in 2013. "Then I got seriously addicted to Vicodin and Oxycodone."
Cummings is the second guest to leak details about the Aniston-Theroux nuptials, which were held at the couple's Bel Air home under the guise of a "birthday party" so that word wouldn't get out.
Speaking on his radio show the week after the ceremony, shock jock Howard Stern gave the public the first glimpse into what Aniston's wedding was like.
"They're so secretive that they even had the wedding on a Wednesday because nobody gets married on a Wednesday," he said.
Inside the ceremony, Stern said guests had to hand in their mobile phones at the door, and the only camera at the whole event belonged to photographer Terry Richardson.
After confirming that the marriage was officiated by Jimmy Kimmel, the shock jock said he found particular fault in the couple's seating arrangements.
"They had these little tiny chairs. There was a table, and then you sit down and the chairs were like poufs, like little pillow poufs," he said, adding, "I'm six-foot-f---ing-five! I'm a grown man!"
Jennifer Aniston, 46, announced her engagement to long-time boyfriend Justin Theroux, 44, in 2012.
